WOWS!!!

During World War II, over three million women worked in war plants across the United States. Working women were vital to the war effort, as the loss of men to military service left a workforce shortage in many areas.  The U.S. Government launched a major public relations campaign to encourage women to work.  The use of an invented character —”Rosie the Riveter”—on a brightly colored poster was a powerful propaganda piece.
WOWS were Women Ordnance Workers…  the artillery, the munitions, the weapons – all at the hands of those American women who left their homes and joined in the fight to defeat the enemy in World War II  -
Thank you for your service!

An Open Letter to United States Postmaster General

Dear Sir,
I understand that the USPS isn’t doing very well and you’ll be cutting back on service and penalizing the users of First Class Mail by requesting another rate increase.    Sad, but that will drive more people away as you increase the cost of communication via letter / cards -
Yes, the Internet and email and even text messages have cut into your business, but emails and electronic communications are fleeting and if a computer fails, they’re gone.   Imagine if Abraham Lincoln’s  letters were via email.   What a loss of National treasures.   Perhaps instead of raising rates, maybe there are other ways to entice people to write more cards and letters.  How about giving ten (10) extra stamps when someone buys a sheet of a hundred (100) ?   Or how about “Mail Free on the 13th of the month”?
In my opinion, I’d also get rid of the strange rules of mailing envelopes.  It wastes time in line and confuses the general public on what rate applies.

Have we forgotten?

foldedcolors Have we forgotten? The principle was enunciated over 200 years ago by President & General George Washington:

“There is a rank due to the United States among nations, which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. . . . If we desire to secure peace . . . it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.”

Where are the “do-ers”?

I want to change things. I want to see things happen. I don’t want just to talk about them. –John Kenneth Galbraith

With those words, I’ve looked around and often it seems we’re surrounded by those who like to hear themselves talk or in some cases “type”   It gets frustrating when your work gets drowned out by those talkers.  There are major issues that need to be addressed.   I won’t list them here, you all can come up with a better list than I can.  Rather than talk about them, I am working on a new online store to showcase the work I’ve done and several new products that I’ve designed for 2010.

In the meantime, you can poke around in and explore my other store where there are over a dozen products that you can choose from.    The Gallery has many photographs that would improve the view of many blank walls.  Some can be printed as large as 20″ x 30″. (did you know many can be printed on canvas?)    Enjoy  DOING!

Spirit of America – US Army Style!

I had a small inkling of what to expect having spent many days among the Old Guard and US Army Band – “Pershing’s Own” – but after the show began, I thought different. What unfurled was a extravaganza that kept moving right up until intermission… it was fast action, informative, precision, pageantry with a heavy dose of history mixed into the delivery.    I was truly impressed and after the two hours of show, my camera had recorded over 800 photos of these Soldiers in action…  I’m sure the attendees in Columbus, OH and Providence, RI would have the same impression or better.
