82,000 Reasons to Remember…

From the millions of Americans that have served in our military and fought the wars to protect the United States and the free world, few people know or remember that many never made it home…  The US Department of Defense maintains an ongoing operation to seek out, locate and identify these thousands through the  “Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office”  They continue to “bring them home” and often their final resting place is Arlington National Cemetery - The National Shrine of the United States.   John Michael has photographed many of the final honors in his ongoing mission of “Preserving the memories so others will remember…” ™  This final returning home often provides comfort and closure to the families and next-of-kin.

This on-going effort by the  United States Department of Defense has recently recovered our veterans from Europe, Laos, Papua New Guinea and many more locations around the world.

Often though, because of many things, the public has forgotten why they enjoy the freedoms in the United States.   So…

Though we should remember them every day of the year, for the nearly 82,000 POW/MIA who have not returned to America, we set aside one day a year to remember them – the 3^rd Friday in September.  In 2010, that’s Friday 17 September.

John Michael has combined an outstanding photograph from his collection along with the words of POW / MIA Remembrance to produce a tribute to those 82,000 Americans in postcard form.

This IS A postcard that should be sent on ANY day of the year to remind us of the sacrifices those who have not returned have made and reflect on the freedoms we enjoy in the United States of America.
