Celebrate National Airborne Day at the
Airborne & Special Operations Museum
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The public is invited to celebrate National Airborne Day on Saturday, August 14 at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in downtown Fayetteville. This year’s annual National Airborne Day commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Army Parachute Test Platoon’s first official jump and the tenth anniversary of the museum.
At 10am members of the US Army Special Operations Command Black Daggers, the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Freefall Team, and the Golden Knights will perform a freefall parachute demonstration.
The 82nd Airborne Division “All American” Chorus will perform in the museum at 10:15am and 11am.
Displays of current XVIII Airborne Corps, 82nd Airborne Division and US Army Special Operations Command equipment, as well as historic re-enactors, will be on the museum’s parade field and in the lobby and gallery until 3pm. In addition, parachute riggers will hold demonstrations throughout the day.
All other events are free.
THE MUSEUM
Located in downtown Fayetteville, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum is part of the U.S. Army Museum System and tells the story of Army airborne and special operations units from 1940 to the present. Museum hours: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon – 5 p.m. Sunday. Closed Monday; open Federal holiday Mondays.
