The tradition continues -
Earlier this week another small milestone was set in history…
MARCH 2010 – It’s now part of the collection of The Old Guard Museum - “The Old Guard on Mission – 2010″ Calendar was donated by John Michael. On a recent visit to Fort Myer, John Michael met with Kirk Heflin, Curator and Historian of The Old Guard and donated several of John Michael’s recent works - including presenting this year’s calendar to be included in this historic Regiment’s collection.
This is the second regimental calendar for the 3d Infantry Regiment of the US Army. John Michael also designed and published the first regimental calendar for 2009. This year’s theme went beyond what one Soldier called the Regiment’s traditional “spit and polish” of pageantry and gave a small glimpse of some of the other work that this historic regiment continues to do on a regular basis from the GUNS of the Presidential Salute Battery rendering honors in Arlington National Cemetery to “Folding the garrison Colors” on historic Fort Myer, to what has become expected, a line company being deployed to defend freedom and democracy. The donation joined last year’s Calendar – “The Old Guard on Parade – 2009″ displayed the regiment in all its grandeur as the US Army’s elite ceremonial unit to be a permanent part of this historic regiment’s collection.
If you’d like to purchase the calendar and haven’t done so. If you get to read this by 31 MAR 2010, “The Old Guard on Mission – 2010 is available on the online store After that date, it will just like the 2009 calendar be removed and no longer sold to keep it a limited edition.
Watch this space for the announcement of the 2011 TOG calendar …
