2010-Old-Guard

Welcome to the 2010 Old Guard Calendar … “The Old Guard on Mission – 2010″

In what began as a tribute in an inaugural year has begun to be a  tradition, this is the SECOND Regimental Calendar for this historic and very elite Regiment in the US military.

The Old Guard is the oldest infantry Regiment in continuous service to the United States having its origins dating back to 1784, then designated as the 1st American Regiment.  Over those 225 plus years, the Soldiers of the Regiment have carried out numerous missions in defense of the United States in the Civil War, in the war with Mexico, Spanish American War, WW II, Vietnam and now in Iraq.

Of the nearly 2,000 Soldiers in the Regiment, most of their missions are ceremonial, however they carry a dual overall mission, the other being the defenses of the US Capital Region under the Military District of Washington.

The Regiment also provides ceremonial support for White House and Pentagon arrivals.  But a more solemn duty is the ceremonial support of final honors ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery.

The Regiment consists of a number of specialty units which include:

  • The Tomb Guards
  • The Presidential Salute Battery who since 1953 have fired the traditional 21 Gun Salute for the President & Heads of State
  • The Caisson Platoon
  • The US Army Drill Team
  • The Fife and Drum Corps (who have led the march in every Presidential Inauguration since 1960)
  • The Commander-in-Chief’s Guard, who also wear colonial uniforms
  • The Continental Color Guard

The calendar is a 12 month printed on heavy paper stock wire bound with a choice of colors and three sizes of calendar.
