Since late June, I have been following and photographing the Presidential Salute Battery – “The Guns Platoon” of the 3d Infantry Regiment – “The Old Guard” The initial interest was to capture a few photos that would be inserted into an Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) Memorial Book that I’m preparing from the final honors of a noted General. After one mission, I was convinced that the men of this elite unit (the only one of its kind in the entire US Army) were really something else and the way that they performed their missions were just truly a spectacular event that unfurls with such precision.
Well today, the platoon sergeant, SFC Flinta, surprised me – awarding me the challenge coin of the platoon and making me part of the platoon – their photographer.
I’m truly honored and appreciative of this. Thank you!
